Tora Sushi Lounge is located in heart of The Historic Gilbert District Seaside, Oregon on the corner of Broadway and Holladay, in the Kerwin Building.
In the early 1890s Alexandre Gilbert moved to Seaside, and by 1912 he was elected mayor. This was shortly after the disastrous fire of that year, and Gilbert bought downtown property where he erected the Gilbert Block. The four city blocks surrounding the intersection of Broadway and Holladay Drive, including the Kirwen building, constitute the Gilbert District.
The Kirwen building was built in 1913. In the June 11, 1914, Seaside Signal reported “Building operations on the new $60,000 Gilbert building at the corner of 7th Street and Broadway, are being pushed to the highest capacity and this beautiful structure will be completed and ready for occupancy by the middle of July.”
The Kerwin building was home to many businesses over the years, but in the late 1990's the building was in disrepair and was slated to be demolished. A developer with an eye fore a great investment bought the building and restored it to the beautiful building it is today.
The Kerwin building is now the home of many thriving businesses.
